The other day my two eldest sons were asking me about climbing Mount Everest.

I’d had a TimeHop reminding me about the time I, and some others, climbed the height of Everest on the 108 Steps in Macc.

In 24 hours.

For reasons that escape me now.

They were asking about how you do it (the proper one that is).

Oxygen tanks, Sherpa guides, the route, etc.

“Could you climb it from the other side” Oli asked.

Meaning some other route ‘around the back’ I think.

“I suppose you could” I replied. “But why would you?”

You’d take the easiest route, of course.

I use the word ‘easiest’ very loosely there.

But why make it harder than it has to be.

It’s like losing weight, getting in shape, etc.

There are loads of ways to do it.

Ultimately anything that creates a lasting calorie deficit will cause you to lose weight.

All the research shows that.

But……….

There are some ways that look thoroughly miserable and hard work (to us at least).

And others that look relatively enjoyable (again, to us, at least).

You can just eat less food and / or move more.

You can count points and / or syns.

You can go hungry.

You can keep doing what you’ve been doing with a bit more ‘effort’ and ‘willpower’ in certain areas.

You can try and ‘resist temptation’.

But……….

We prefer to address mindsets and self-limiting beliefs.

To work on habits.

To find tasty, enjoyable and filling, but also nutritious and not too calorie dense ways to eat.

To do fun and rewarding exercise (myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting).

And so on.

All ways work.

It’s about finding the ‘easiest’ one that works for you 🙂

Much love,

Jon ‘The Everest climb was horrible’ Hall and Matt ‘Everlast’ Nicholson
