You ever seen one of those memes with the following (usually slightly misquoted) Hunter S Thompson quote

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”

Mixing exercise and drinking

I love it.

Agree 100%.

The funny thing is, from my observations at least, the people that usually share this never seem to be the sort that are up to a great deal.

Those for whom a “great ride” seems to start at end at getting pissed and eating lots of cake and biscuits.

Nothing wrong with getting pissed and eating cake or biscuits.

I love both.

Particularly the getting pissed bit.

But I feel if that is the entirety of someone’s excitement and enjoyment, that doesn’t seem the most fulfilling life.

I think to think of our body’s like a car.

Sometimes it’s fun to throw it round a few corners.

Rag it around a little.

Mixing exercise and drinking

But we actually get to have more enjoyment out of it if we look after it.

If we put the right fuel in, change the oil, get it serviced, etc.

Rather than just running it into the ground.

Life is about having fun.

And food and drink can, and should be, part of that fun (check out the details of being a member at RISE in Macclesfield if you’re up for that). Mixing exercise and drinking is possible.

But if they’re causing the rest of our life to be less fun, then maybe it’s time to question that.

There’s so much great stuff out there we can do, but if our food, drink and lifestyle choices are stopping that happening?

Drive your body hard, but look after it as well.

Let’s all get to the grave proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”

But let’s also question if our current choices are going to mean that actually happens?

Much love,

Jon ‘Time’ Hall and Matt ‘ing Miss Daisy’ Nicholson
