If I had a pound for every time that someone had said to me some version of the following, I would have, I don’t know, a couple of grand at least:

“I know what I’m going to do. Stop the McDonald’s / Take out / Eating out / Socialising / Snacking / Drinking”

Out of everyone I’ve ever known who has lost the weight and kept it off, do you know how many pounds I would have if they did it by never doing any of those things again?

None as far as I’m aware.

I used to be fat.

I lost my weight about 17 years ago.

Kept it off since.

Can You Eat McDonalds and Lose Weight?

I must admit I don’t go to McDonald’s much.

Can you eat mcdonalds and lose weight

But I’ll happily go if I’m with people who go.

Don’t get take out all that often either.

But I have eaten out, socialised, snacked and drank alcohol somewhere between daily and weekly for the last 832 weeks straight I’m sure.

As have (to varying degrees) every long term weight loss success I’ve ever seen.

You don’t need to stop those things completely (visit RISE in Macclesfield’s briefing meeting page if you want results without having to stop everything you enjoy).

Maybe look at how often you do them, sure.

Or the choices we make when doing them (take out or eating out just mean we’re not cooking, not that we have to go nuts).

If completely stopping certain things has worked for you, then that’s great – keep up the good work.

If you’ve ended up doing them, felt you’ve ‘fallen off the wagon’ and gone back to old habits………..

It’s probably not an approach worth re-trying.

So, can you eat McDonalds and lose weight? It’s the overall balance that’s key.

All or nothing approaches are nice in theory.

But they usually end us as nothing.

It’s the balance that’s key.

Your balance taking you in the right direction?

Crack on!

Taking you in the wrong direction?

Adjust the balance until it is.

Much love,

P.S. Matt’s middle name is easy – one bonus point if you get that. Another 4 if you get mine 😉

This contact form is available only for logged in users.

P.P.S. Yesterday’s middle names – ‘First the worst’ and ‘Worst witch’

P.P.P.S. I’m aware I’ve gone a bit bonus point crazy this week. Wasn’t the intention. I like to build up a bank of written blogs and pick the 5 that I think will work for that week. These first three happened to have bonus points offered.

P.P.P.P.S. Kids nowadays say ‘Zero the Hero’ and ‘Minus the Highness’ which makes no sense!
